April Johnson
This mesmerizing painting was created by Beyond the Brushes member, April Johnson. Though April started with no painting experience, she is an artist by education with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Kent State and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from the School of Visual Arts.
While creating this painting, April gushed over the exploration of new brushes and using brushes in unusual ways, saying it was the best part of the creative process. On the other hand, maintaining the perspective and shadowing of the sand surrounding the boy proved to be the most challenging part of the venture. But obviously, the visual arts background paid off!
A picture is truly worth a thousand words, and this painting evokes a state of reflection and beckons soul searching and serenity. During her own reflection about her time in the Beyond the Brushes community, April recalls...
"Rarely in my life have I been 'awakened and obsessed' to be trained in such a cohesive manner, giving me a new ability of expressing myself, like Beyond the Brushes has done for me. I am eternally grateful for this class!"
