Sheri Baker

This affectionate piece of artwork was created by Beyond the Brush member, Sheri Baker. Sheri joined the community in September 2019.

For this particular painting, Sheri's primary struggle can be summarized in one word. Flow. The hair had to be repainted several times before she achieved her vision, and there wasn't much of a dress in the photograph, leaving the creation up to her. But she matched the flowing movement of the hair and dress exquisitely! Even with the final product, it is easy to see how the original photograph could have inspired her so much and why she was able to enjoy the process of bringing her vision to life. An absolutely stunning outcome! 🙌

Before Beyond the Brushes, Sheri dabbled in acrylics and drawing but maintained a low volume of exposure. She even took a Photoshop painting course, which she said "left me with more questions and frustrations than instruction I could actually apply to my own work."

With a bad taste in her mouth for painting courses, Sheri took a chance on Beyond the Brushes. She came to the community frustrated and on the verge of giving up on painting after several years of failed attempts to find a path that worked for her. Her preconceived notion was, "When I first joined I thought I’d be a member for a few months, decide it was no different than any other class I’d tried, and cancel."

Luckily, Beyond the Brushes was able to change Sheri's mind about herself and painting. Sheri stated...

"Six months later I can tell you I have no intention of leaving...ever. What sets Beyond the Brushes apart is the structured learning path and the video critiques of your paintings...I’m excited about painting again because now I know I can do this! The instruction is top-notch and unlike anything else out there. Michelle and the community are so supportive and encouraging. Michelle truly wants you to succeed, and it shows in Beyond the Brushes."

Thank you, Sheri. Your high praise means more than you realize. It would have been a shame for the art community to lose such a talented painter before she had given herself the opportunity to blossom. I look forward to seeing many more of your paintings as you continue to demonstrate your determination and dedication to growth.
